How Is Painted Glass Restored?

How Is Painted Glass Restored?

Salt Lake City has gorgeous stained glass features throughout its various properties. These stained glass features sometimes have beautiful painted glass elements that add depth, character, and a true artistic touch. Stained glass requires restoration every 75 years to 100 years in order to properly preserve these pieces. Preservation is key or else your stained glass will deteriorate and require replacement. But, how about painted glass? How is painted glass restored?

The Painted Glass Restoration Process for Salt Lake City Properties

Painted glass requires periodic restoration just like stained glass. In order to keep your painted glass in good condition, restoration should take place around the 75 -year to 100-year mark. Painted glass requires skill and technique for restoration, making it important to choose the right studio for the task. Restoration begins with removing the window and transporting it back to the restoration studio. Your stained glass will soak in a proprietary soap blend for up to two weeks. This soaking process removes all of the dirt while making it easy for us to disassemble. A restoration artist will replicate the painted glass pieces by creating perfect color matches and replicating every brush stroke. Each layer of paint is fired in the kiln, often requiring eight to ten layers total.
