When it comes to determining the price of stained glass, the most important thing to consider is the design. At Salt Lake City Stained Glass, all of our stained glass windows are custom made. Therefore, stained glass pricing tends to vary greatly depend on the project size and complexity. However, there are certain factors that control what makes stained glass more or less expensive. We’ve put together the following information as a guide to help our clients gain a better idea of the factors that determine the cost of our stained glass windows.
Factors that Affect Pricing
At Salt Lake City Stained Glass, we typically use two main factors to determine stained glass pricing. The first is the size of the glass. The larger the window, the higher the price of the stained glass will be. The second greatest contributing factor to overall price is the complexity of the design.
Typically, when calculating the total cost, a base price is determined then a “piece” price is set based on the number of individual glass pieces in the pattern and their shape. Organic or curved pieces tend to cost more while geometric pieces are easier to produce and are less expensive.
Specialty Items
It is important to note that specialty items can increase the price of stained and leaded glass. These items typically include something along the lines of custom bevels, painted glass pieces, and sandblasted or etched glass. These items are more difficult to manufacture as they typically require specialized equipment, skills, or materials and are therefore more expensive.
In summary, the more complex or elaborate the stained glass window is, the higher the price. If you’re working with a limited budget and are trying to keep costs low, it may be best to opt for a design that uses fewer pieces and requires mostly geometric shaped glass. In addition, stained glass can usually be designed with a certain budget in mind. However, if finances are not a concern, the design possibilities for your stained glass are truly endless.
